ABSTRACT
In reading about other heroes up to this point, you may have wondered whether we actually placed particular individuals into the right category or type. You may have questioned, for example, whether Gabrielle Giffords is a Transitory Hero, rather than, perhaps, a Traditional Hero. Is Traditional Hero Pat Tillman better regarded as a Transitory Hero? We have named him a Traditional Hero because we don’t feel that the U.S. military’s partial fabrications of his story diminish his genuine heroism. But people can disagree. Indeed, we indicated earlier that the two of us did not see eye to eye on whether Star Trek’s Captain Kirk is a Transitional or Traditional Hero. And, as we have written many times, eyes of beholders are where heroes rise, reside, and fall.
