SCENE.— The last. Cottage at the head of a long Glen in Co. Wicklow.
(Cottage Kitchen ; turf fire in the middle of the scene; a bed in the right corner with a body lying on it covered with a sheet; a door on the opposite side, with a low table near it and two stools. There are a couple of glasses on the table and a bottle of zvhiskey, as i f for a wake, with tzvo cups, a tea-pot and a home-made cake. There is another small door near the bed. Nora Burke is moving about the r00711 settling a fev) things, and looking now and then at the bed with an uneasy look. Then she goes over and looks at a small clock near the chimney. Some one knocks softly at the door. She takes a stocking with money off the table and puts it in her pocket; then goes over and opens the door).
