In both 54d and 54e, Subj.1 may appear before or after the first complementary word, as their 54d′–e′ counterparts show. Again this is not an option for 54f, the [yC VP1 jiù VP2] pattern, where Subj.1 can only appear at the beginning of the sentence. Subj.2 for all of these sentences must appear at the beginning of the second clause, i.e. before the adverb jiù.
