Whether teaching KS3 or KS4 it is essential that you have read any book and know it well in its entirety before you start teaching it. You need to have thought out what ideas you want to explore and think about how these will be addressed as you progress through the text. This will help when planning homework or silent reading, since you will know which chapters are more straightforward and can be read independently. Most of all, have the confi dence to engage in active learning methods because what you want to achieve is the creation of a reading community within your classroom.
