ABSTRACT

In 2011 prominent educator Will Richardson, who is most well-known for his educational blog weblogged, announced that after 10 years of blog author-ship he was stepping back from blogging and embracing more real-time social media along with other professional activities. This announcement may have been seen, by some, as a sign of the final days of blogging in education as it appeared to confirm the viewpoint that blogs have become passé (Machlis, 2009). As teachers and students migrate to newer technology, a noticeable shift away from blogs and wikis, which are often seen as being part of the first wave of Web 2.0 and web-based technologies, towards newer social media outlets, including Twitter and various other real-time social media applications, is apparent.
