ABSTRACT
I AM privileged to speak this evening before a society of philosophical students in the city which has been called the modem Athens. It appeared to me, therefore, that I might not inappropriately lay before the Society some thoughts on that central question by the treatment of which in ancient Athens the first foundations were laid of a European philosophy.
