ABSTRACT

I have heard of several serious accidents from power-loom weaving. One young man, of the name of W illiam Jones, a weaver, had the misfortune to lose his right eye, a short time ago, in consequence of the shuttle flying out of its place. The eye was knocked completely out o f the socket. He went to the Eye Institution at Manchester, and got well; but, of course, with the loss of his eye. He then ap plied for work again, but was told they could not employ him, unless he would take four shillings per week; his former earnings were about twelve shillings. He has not received a penny in the form of compensation for his loss. He is about nineteen years of age.
