ABSTRACT

Churches are more deeply involved in American economic life than is commonly thought. To some extent this fact is not the result of choice but has been determined by the nature of Christianity and by the kind of institution which the churches have become. The zone of choice lies in the discovery of ways by which the churches' relationship to the economic activities of our times may be made most constructive. For this task a clear understanding of the facts and a positive philosophy are required. There is no more urgent challenge confronting Christianity today.
