ABSTRACT

In all the Yugoslav lands during the past half-century the same basic process has been working, that is, a mainly primitive ‘pure’ peasant society has been transformed into a ‘mixed’ society. In each area the situation has been somewhat different, so that it is possible to see the same process working out during one fairly brief period under a variety of conditions. In each case, education has played, and still is playing, an important part in the process.
