ABSTRACT

Had time and resources permitted, this study would have been followed by other researches designed to show the relation between scores on this social status scale and other aspects of social differentiation. It has been only possible, however, to compare scores with other information obtained in the original inquiry but not used in the construction of the scale. In a later chapter, reference will be made to the relationship between social status scores and some other variables which are, to some extent, a validation of the scale. There is also the effect on the scale of basing it upon the ‘Universe’ of Liverpool rather than the United Kingdom to be examined, a choice determined by economic rather than scientific considerations.
