ABSTRACT

It was stated in Chapter 1 that this book would be written mainly from the point of view of the retailer. No apologies are now being offered for this attitude. It is of the nature of inductive argument to start with partly descriptive material and proceed to generalizations. We have already, of course, introduced generalizations of various kinds, but there seems a need now more explicitly to use the categories that have been established by the science of economics, and the object of this chapter is to summarize the book in the light of such categories.
