ABSTRACT

Now we shall trace for a distance the steps by which the American evolution of the art of the screen was being duplicated in parallel, and sometimes slightly prior, steps abroad.

Both in England and in Europe the work of the screen inventors began upon the foundation of the Edison Kinetoscope. There have been many efforts on the part of various patriotic writers of various nationalities to show other origins for the screen art overseas and to attribute priorities to those who really followed upon and amplified the work of Edison and Dickson, rather than anticipating them.
