ABSTRACT
How can a discussion of the responsibility for end-uses of theories contribute to the revival of critical planning theory? Planning theories will to some extent be used in the shaping of practice, whether in planning or in other kinds of political-administrative practice. These practices will be less than ideal. Some will have obvious weaknesses and therefore be met with deserved criticism. The repercussions on CPT (and thus critical planning theory) will presumably be more balanced if it is made clear that planning theorists have, in general, limited information about and limited power to influence the end-uses of their theories.
