ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to discuss the relationship between neo-liberalism and CPT. In particular, the aim is to arrive at suggestions of how CPT can be developed so as to increase the chances that communicative planning efforts will not unwittingly serve a neo-liberal agenda. Substantive and procedural recommendations in communicative planning are brought closer together in this chapter. Clearer criteria for what a ‘good plan’ means in the parlance of communicative planning are necessary for deciding whether a specific plan takes society a step in the direction of neo-liberalism or a step towards realization of the ideals of CPT. The main concepts of neo-liberalism and new public management (NPM) were explained in Chapters 5 and 6. The exposition can therefore be taken fairly directly to the relations and, at least on the face of it, mutual scepticism between neo-liberalism and CPT.
