ABSTRACT

The extant materials from which may be derived some knowledge of the religion of the Eastern Libyans are in the pages which follow treated by a comparative method which, were there more data, would be unnecessary. It should be further premised that the comparative method employed has forced me to adopt a number of views which have not, hitherto, been advanced elsewhere, and which, therefore, have not the advantage of having been subjected to public criticism. In presenting the evidence, it has been found best to do so under three heads : first, the animistic phases ; second, eschatology ; third, theology. Detailed consideration of these topics will permit us to conclude with a few remarks of a general nature.
