ABSTRACT
THE r8le played by the Chagga tribe is too inconspicuous to merit mention even in African chronicles as a matter of purely historical interest, and lest it seem strange that I should dwell on the past of a nation which numbers but 125,000 souls, and on the doings of individuals whose activities were without consequence to the world at large, I may briefly introduce this chapter with a few remarks as to its objects.
