ABSTRACT
Chapter XVI. GROUPS BASED ON PLACE OF BIRTH " MEETINGS" or, in the Ibo rendering, "mikiri" C _ J, were a marked feature of Ibo social life in and around Agbaja. A number of men or a mixture of men and women from one or more villages would combine on a voluntary basis to meet at intervals and to subscribe in money or, sometimes, in kind for the benefit of each member in turn.1
