ABSTRACT

In her relations to the rest of the world Africa has been explored and conquered, converted and bartered. The Negro experience in America can be described in similar terms; the Negro could rarely negotiate as a free and equal member of society. If this limitation has been socially disastrous, it has also served to strengthen the Negro’s identification with Africa and to cause him to seek ways of helping Africans. His concept of help is itself a product of his western and new world culture; it is a religious and Christian concept.
