ABSTRACT

American scholars, artists and writers of African descent join together in the American Society of African Culture to study the effect of African culture on American life, to examine the cultural contributions of African peoples to their societies; and to help the Western World and, more particularly, Americans to sweep away the prejudices that limit an appreciation of the cultural contributions of African peoples. Our purpose is also to study those conditions which effect the development of ethnic, national and universal culture and to acknowledge the ultimate immunity of the great cultural contributions of man to the distortions that result from political, economic and nationalistic bias.
