ThisprovinceextendingalongtheshoreoftheMediterranean sea,producescornandcattleinabundance;thatpartofit contiguoustoTetuanproducesthemostdeliciousorangesin theworld;alsofigs,grapes,melons,apricots,plums,strawberries,apples,pears,pomgranates,citrons,lemons,limes,and therefreshingfruitoftheopuntia,orpricklypear,calledby theArabs(KermuseEnsarrah)Christianfig.Thisfruitwas probablyfirstbroughtintothecountryfromtheCanaryIslands, asitaboundsinSnse,andiscalledbytheShelluhsofSouth Atlas,{Takanarite)theCanaryfruit.Aridgeofmountains passesfromTangier,alongthisprovincetotheeastward,as farasBona,inAlgiers;thesemountainsarecalledJibbelErreef bythenatives,andtheLesserAtlasbyEuropeans.
