ABSTRACT
ON the 4th June, 1867, I was appointed to H.M.S. " Daphne," and commissioned her
at Plymouth for service on the East Indian station, to which had belonged for some years previously the East Coast of Africa so far south as the twenty-third parallel of latitude, which
from lat. 4° south formerly belonged to the Cape of Good Hope.
