ABSTRACT

A recent survey conducted by Boatman and Wellins (2011) asked more than 12,000 upper-level executives across more than 2,500 organizations and 70 countries what they believed their organizations needed to succeed in the business world, both now and into the future. The answer, quite overwhelmingly, was to produce more creative and innovative output. This observation is echoed by several other recent surveys, such as those conducted by the Boston Consulting Group (2010) and IBM’s Capitalizing on Complexity report (2010), which also found that the ability to drive and facilitate innovation was listed as the single most desired leadership quality.
