ABSTRACT

There are numerous studies of individual cities in which the regional relations receive varied treatment. There are few, however, that handle the matter with any thoroughness and the modes of approach vary considerably. Several case studies are selected here to illustrate these varied aspects of the city-region from the standpoint of the geographer. We have endeavoured to select one case from each major country with which we are concerned. These are Lyon, Cologne, Leeds-Bradford, and Salt Lake City.
