ABSTRACT

WHILST the first and chief object of the Missionary enterprise ill heathen lands is to introduce christianity, tllis is not all it accomplishes, but indirectly it confers upon the natives many secular benefits. For, as soon as a missionary has entered a new field, and llas gailled tIle confidellce and affection of the lleathen, so far as to render intercourse with them safe, other men, who have otller ends in view than that of introducing gospel truth, follow in their wake.
