ABSTRACT

NOW THE NOONDAY DEVIL of tedium besets us. For the search for features that are uniform and common to a class necessarily tends to be a monotonous business. It requires that with all the artisan families we must cover the same ground that we have already been over with the Dunns and count heads. We therefore inevitably have to work with the same central theme. But, fortunately, the theme is a rich one and we may find that its repetition is far from monotonous if, like a musical composer, we develop the many and intriguing variations that it contains.
