ABSTRACT

But the circular bastion on the west front stands on the same level as the main hut, and is connected with it by a terrace-walk along the inner side of the battlemented front 'vall.

From the platform of the main hut stone walls radiate out to the circumference of the enclosure, like the spokes from the hub of a wheel, and divide it into several compartments. There are passage-ways connecting these several divisions in the southern part of the building, but in the northern half the radiating walls are not pierced by any sort of doorway, and seem designed to shut off the precincts of the chief's hut from those of his dependants.
