ABSTRACT

That there is a need for this book is indisputable. The tall building typology has witnessed more rapid growth in the past two decades than in the preceding hundred years, and yet the vast majority of current books on the subject fall into the glossy, coffee-table book categoryhigh on image, low on content, especially technical content. All aspects of tall buildings-form and architectural design, relationship to urban habitat, structural systems, elevatoring techniques, construction methods, environmental strategies, attitudes towards facadeshave seen major development in the first decade of the twenty-first century, and thus this book is more than just timely in its intended capture of the “state of the art”; it is absolutely necessary.
