ABSTRACT

T H E Lucayos, or Bahama Islands, though unimportant in themselves, will ever be famous in the history of the new world. It was one of these Islands that was first descried by Roderic Triana, a seaman appointed by Co­ lumbus to ascend the mast, to look out for land; and it was one of these that first received the impression of Eu­ ropean feet.
