ABSTRACT

Classroom learning environments are critical to the academic and personal success of students and represent a particularly significant context for student development. During their formative years, students spend more than 15,000 hours in schools (Rutter & Maugham, 2002). These hours represent students’ opportunity to interact and achieve independent of their parents’ careful oversight. Consequently, a primary goal of schools should be to enhance natural supports for psychological wellness in the school environments in which students reside. Strong school environments enhance the social and emotional well-being of students and maximize students’ academic success by fostering increased attendance, engagement, work completion, and work accuracy.
