ABSTRACT

This book has been concerned with the structure of the city and not with city planning, but the knowledge and the expertise needed for such analysis are essential as a basis for sound .future planning. This fact is now generally recognized, as is shown by the amount of attention given to such study in Britain and in the United States in recent years. It is, however, the Continent that has been the special concern of this work, and it is here that the business of reconstruction is now particularly urgent.
