ABSTRACT

Regional re-organisation and membership of the European Union are two processes that have posed general challenges to and created important opportunities for Swedish regions during the last two decades. In this chapter, we will attempt to identify and analyse some of the most important changes that have occurred or are taking place, which relate to Swedish regions and their regional development agencies (RDAs). The two processes have been combined and used as a conceptual lens in the investigation of Swedish regions. Our discussion is for Sweden in general, but focuses primarily on the County of Jönköping, in the central/southern part of Sweden.
