ABSTRACT

Mobile apps are pulling back the curtain on a new breed of individualized learning experiences that are increasingly integrated into our lives. The mobile apps phenomenon demands new ways to think about and evaluate apps designed for education purposes. This chapter proposes two broad categories of educational apps: Type 1 replicant apps and Type 2 extender apps, along with a new approach for evaluation that considers mobile learning through an experiential lens that has the potential to impact learner identity.
