ABSTRACT
Throughout this volume, I have developed three interlinked themes-connection, materiality and dialogue-as ways of thinking about what heritage is and does in contemporary global societies. In this brief conclusion, I would like to look to the future of heritage studies and try to reinforce some of the implications of the ‘toolkit of concepts’ that I have developed here. In doing so, I emphasise the ways in which critical interdisciplinary approaches to heritage might have an influence on the global practice of heritage, and hence have a lasting impact on important social, political, economic and environmental issues in the future.
