ABSTRACT
In 1948 the lease of Appleton Hall (later the Shaw Classifying School) expired and nine Managers were appointed joint Trustees of the building and land, 'purchased with the approval of the Secretary of State with moneys provided by Parliament and paid from the Exchequer to the Managers under Section 104 of the Children and Young Persons Act 1933'.
