ABSTRACT

The question of suitability of Training School leads us to the issue of successful placing. Not only should the new Headmistress and her Staff have a picture of a girl's personality and potential, but the new regime should provide the best recipe for rehabilitation. For it was neither a training for girls eager to be equipped for a certain job, nor was it a Finishing School for girls whose parents asked for talents and graces to be polished up for the marriage market. In most cases the girls were itching to be at home, or in a flat, or with a lover; and parents wanted at best their company and at worst their wages.
