ABSTRACT

IN what sense is it possible to discuss the methods of adult education apart from the particular subjects to be taught? To attempt to deal with the techniques of presenting each and all of the many different branches of study which appeal to adult groups would be beyond the power of any one person, and that is not what is intended. There is first of all the broad approach to adult studies in relation to the special character, interests and mature experience of groups of adult students; and there are specific techniques which experience has shown to be useful, whatever the subject to be taught. It is this twofold approach to the problem of method which will be the subject of this chapter.
