ABSTRACT

As we saw in Chapters 4 and 5, health risks almost always differ over time and place; health variations are also often seen between different socio-economic and geographical locations. Moreover, as time evolves, different broad types of health disorders and health risks tend to affect people differently at different times of their lives, and these often underlie lifecourse patterns of change. In Chapter 4, we noted the broader patterns of changes in morbidity and mortality that have occurred over time and the major causes of death and DALYS in high-, middle-and low-income countries (Tables 4.6-4.9). In Chapter 7, we will look at some major contemporary health challenges that are likely to have major future impacts on patterns of health status and consequences for healthcare needs.
