ABSTRACT

Individual behavior and community institutions are linked to the social processes operating in the metropolitan community in this filial essay by Warren Peterson and George Zollschan. The authors are sociological researchers on the metropolitan community who conduct their research on its practical problems within a framework of sociological and social-psychological theory. They have found that framework most useful which views the metropolis in terms of two processes which connect the population aggregate with the institutional system — the allocation of persons to positions and the institutionalization of needs.
