Wehavereachedtheyear1929.Itisonlyafewyearsnowthat thestruggleforthemoralindependenceoftheTurkishpeople hasbeguntodevelop.Duringthisbriefperiod,thispeoplehas shownavitalityandadynamismmoremiraculousthantheeffort whichwasexertedduringthefiveyears'struggleformaterial independence.Duringthisbriefperiod,thechainswhichfetteredthemoralforceoftheTurkishpeopleandwhichithad borneformanycenturieswerebroken.TheChinesewall,which formanycenturieswaspreventingitfromfollowinginthewake ofWesternprogress,hasbeendemolished.Thepeoplesof Europeseeanewtypeofmantakinghisplaceintheirranks, andmarchingabreastwiththemontheroadofprogress.But whatisthisnewtypeofman,wheredoeshecomefrom?What ishisorigin?Whatishispast?Whatbloodflowsinhisveins? Willheremainatravelcompanionuntiltheendoftheroad,or willhegiveupinmid-journey?Thisiswhyitisinterestingto knowhisantecedents,andhisorigins.
