The Learning and the Generalization of Imitation: Experiments on Animals

An analysis of an observed example of imitative behaviour has led to the conclusion that certain conditions of social life reward the learning of imitation. An attempt will be made to verify experimentally the deduction that imitation will actually be learned whenever these conditions are present. In a subsequent chapter the structure of society will be examined in more detail to see just how regularly these conditions are met.
