ABSTRACT
The ‘don’t smile until Christmas’ advice is something that some teachers continue to use. The idea seems to be that keeping a stern aspect and being a stickler for classroom rules for a long period establishes your authority. That may well work for some, but in general we have to find a style that allows us to show our personality.
