ABSTRACT

Libna Dingil may have been irresponsible, tyrannical and have lacked military ability. But his tenacity, persistence, determination and pride should be admired. Despite repeated defeats, the disloyalty of the Chewa and the highland Muslims and the fact that he was betrayed by most of the Christian nobility, the monarch, constantly pursued by his enemies, some of whom were previously his subordinates, continued the war against Grañ and refused offers of honourable submission.1
