ABSTRACT

In the Introduction, I said that the book worked at several levels: as a guide to doing action research, as a report on my knowledge, and as a reflection on my practice. Here I synthesise these perspectives through the explanatory framework of order. ‘Order’ has different meanings, including ‘arrangement’ (the way things are) and ‘community’ (the groupings we live in). We need good order for balanced living; when things are out of order we lose our way. We need good order in our various orders so we know where we stand, not in a hierarchical sense but in that we feel rooted. We can use action research to help us.
