ABSTRACT

The Internet has metamorphosed from a network for simple data and text message delivery to a video entertainment platform for use in computers and mobile phones in markets with high broadband penetration. The increasing significance of the entertainment function of the Internet has caused profound changes in the television and entertainment industries and facilitated the growth of user-generated content and the consumption of different types of content. Consequently, consumers today have numerous ways to watch videos. For example, they can use their digital video recorders (DVRs) to record and store TV programs; they can use their DVD play-ers or VCRs to watch prerecorded content; they can watch videos online on their computers; and even when they are on the go, they can watch videos on their cellular phones or iPods.
