ABSTRACT

In their preceding chapter on “Assumptions behind Intercoder Reliability Indices” Zhao, Liu, and Deng claim to have discovered numerous para-doxes and abnormalities. In logic, paradoxes can be resolved from a metaperspective. So, in my comments on their chapter, I shall take a larger and more technical perspective of the issues these authors raise and will end with radically different recommendations. The reader will have to decide the merits of my critique. I contend that most of the authors’ discoveries are the artifacts of being led astray by strange, almost conspiratorial uses of language.
