ABSTRACT

While I was at WEC Delhi we deciphered a 6633 message in the summer of 1945 reporting a British landing on Phuket Island, off the west coast of the long Kra isthmus - now an international beach resort famed for its water-sports and seafood delicacies. We assumed that GHQ, down the road, would be glad to have this upto-the-minute situation report from the enemy, and rang up to give them the news. There was a tense silence; then a horrified voice said 'We can't possibly discuss that. It's Top Secret', and rang off.
