ABSTRACT
This is the fifth and last of the major combat sectors spanning the border battles of the Eastern Front that we will examine. To the Soviets this was perhaps the most interesting sector because it was the region in which their mechanized forces were the most successful, or the least unsuccessful. Of course, part of that relative success was due to the fact that in the Special Kiev Military District Soviet mechanized forces were echeloned in strength and in depth.
