ABSTRACT

Heat transfer may be defined as: the transmission of energy from one region to another as a result of a temperature difference between them.

In heat transfer, as in other branches of engineering science, the successful solution of problems requires us to make assumptions and simplifications. This enables us to formulate mathematical models whose solution is possible, either manually, or with the aid of computers and computer software. It is important to remember that all idealised models of real engineering problems should be treated with caution, since any simplified analysis may, in certain cases, severely limit the accuracy of the results.
