ABSTRACT

We begin our study of mechanism kinematics by considering a graphical method for finding the velocities and acceleration of mechanisms with rigid links when in planar motion. These parameters are of particular importance to engineers when considering the kinematics of a mechanism for a particular function. We then extend our knowledge by using analytical methods for determining the relative velocities and accelerations associated with the internal combustion engine slidercrank mechanism. Finally, we take a very brief look at cam mechanisms and their displacement diagrams.
