In #138 Wittgenstein turns from his attack upon Tractarian themes to consider a criticism of his own identification (or near identification) of meaning with use:
But we understand the meaning of a word when we hear or say it; we grasp it in a flash, and what we grasp in this way is surely different from the “use” which is extended in time! (PI, #138)
